Water Baptism is an outward symbol of the baptism of the Holy Spirit (discussed in “The Baptism of the Holy Spirit”). It is an expression of the death of ourselves (our flesh) and now the living of the Spirit.
Mark 1:8 NKJV
I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.
We are not saved or changed by water baptism. That is why children should not be water baptized until they are at an age that they can understand.
1 Peter 3:21 NASB
Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you–not the removal of dirt from the flesh [not by physical bathing]…
Acts 8:36-37 NKJV
Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?” Then Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”
